Blog Awards

I’ve recently been awarded my second blog award.   The first blog award I decided to ….somewhat rudely really, ignore.  I just couldn’t quite figure out why I didn’t want to accept it, but I didn’t want to.  I didn’t have enough time think about it in depth.  I didn’t want to just say ‘no,’ so instead did nothing, just ignored it.  I’m not going to do that again.

These awards, besides being first and foremost a recognition of achievement,  are basically a networking method that is probably quite successful.  It is a way of motivating the acceptor of an award to give the award to other bloggers, thereby promoting other blogs that the writer’s readers may not have come across yet.  Nothing wrong with that.  There are some great bogs out there, and the award system is one way of coming across them.  This particular award also requires the revelation of 7 things about one self.  Nothing particularly wrong with that either.  I guess I just find accepting something that obligates me to do something somehow jarring.  I’d rather reveal freely.  I’d rather promote other blogs freely.  Yet I haven’t.  I’m too busy working on my own stuff, and following the blogs I consistently go to because they are just wonderful.

So  although I’m extremely delighted and honoured to be thought of I’m going to say no to the Kreativ Blog Award.  Instead I’m going to make a committment to promoting a blog I think is great on a regular basis….This could be fun.

I’ve received and unintentionally ignored awards. I have a post in the making that I keep adding to. I intend to get the awards out there one day, but haven’t quite gotten to it.

I also am worried about turning around and handing out the award to others. I don’t like to hurt people’s feelings by honoring A,B, and C blog while ignoring D, E, and F. Or meaning to give an award to G but I accidentally overlook them.

But regardless,I think it’s our right as a recipient blogger to do with them as we please. Or maybe that’s my lazy justification, I dunno. But I do like your intention to acknowledge blogs you admire. No one can argue with that : )

Brigit, I broke the rules, too. Like you, initially I was reluctant, but, like you, there are blogs that are my go-to places on the net and they touch me in so many different ways. So I just nominated all the blogs I read - lol! Seemed the easy way out, but took a long while to get all organized. I think awards should come with no strings attached, but I guess the objective is to spread the word when you enjoy a blog and I have to admit I like seeing familiar faces in the comment sections of my favorites.

I love your approach! It’s perfect! And thank you so much.

You found a great solution to what is sometimes a sticky problem. I feel I need to be a little better about recognizing the blogs I read on my blog- I do have a blogroll in my side bar that, of course, always needs to be updated.

Looking forward to visiting your faves!

:) when I first started blogging a few years back, I dedicated a page to all the awards that started coming in. But after awhiile, it just became too much for me mostly because of all the ’strings attached’ to “receiving” it! LOL

I like to think that the intentions behind these awards are lovely…. But you know what? If I knew how, I’d make an award with absolutely NO RULES to receiving it…just so I could give it away as a token of appreciation…not as a way to drive traffic to my blog.

Awards and traffic aren’t why I’m blogging anyways…. Nice solution :)

phd in yogurtry - It would be nice to do whatever we wanted to with them. Maybe there should only be one rule: ‘just keep sharing them around.’

Talon - You are welcome. I’m a bit funny about the strings attached to an award. Any way I’m not good at being told what to do :).

Jen - I don’t read all that many on a regular basis. In fact my blogroll is out of date. But those I do visit frequently, I think are fabulous. This could be a good way of showing appreciation for blogs as well as letting others know what they are about and how good they are.

Grace - The time the award thing takes, is another problem for me. I’m getting a little selfish with my time, and of course I’m blogging because I love to write things that hopefully make sense to some of the readers. Taking photos is also time consuming, but it’s become a big part of my blogging process. So, I like my idea of showcasing my favourite blogs too.
